Oversees, evaluates, organizes, and coordinates the daily functions of team members to ensure a seamless and continuous Laboratory workflow, either overall or within a designated area. Responsibilities typically include staff scheduling, arranging coverage for absences, delegating tasks, prioritizing work, directing problem-solving efforts, ensuring continuity between shifts, and managing customer inquiries or complaints. Takes a leading role in the formulation and execution of new policies, procedures, and protocols aimed at optimizing workflow, enhancing efficiency, and improving the safety and reliability of testing. Trains and evaluates the competency of team members. Provides direction and support to staff, facilitating the accurate, timely, and efficient completion of instrument maintenance, quality control, non-conformance event management, and records management. Offers constructive feedback and recognition to colleagues, reinforcing Sutter's values and guiding the team's focus on delivering safe, reliable care. Acts as the liaison between the Clinical Laboratory Manager and staff, physicians, patients, families, and other hospital personnel, leading communication huddles and structured team meetings (e.g., Daily Engagement). Regularly performs all duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in one or more areas of the Laboratory. Complies with all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and uphold the highest standards of safety and reliability in testing.Key Responsibilities:

CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST.
• Functions as a CLS in one or more areas of the Laboratory, adhering to all CLS job responsibilities. Refer to the CLS job description for further details.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
CLSL - Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
8 years of recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrated expertise and technical proficiency in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more assigned clinical specialty areas; examples include Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Transfusion Service. Additionally, proficient in monitoring, evaluating, organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing workflow, training, assessing competency, providing direction to team members, escalating issues appropriately, and solving complex operational problems in real-time.
Ability to provide constructive feedback and recognition to colleagues, reinforcing Sutter's values and guiding the team's focus on delivering safe, reliable care.
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for self and team, completing work within expected timeframes.
Ability to guide the team to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks. Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving relevant to own duties and those of the team.
Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
Workflow Management: Ability to organize and coordinate a team response to:
1) Fluctuations in volume.
2) Unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information systems failure.
3) Shift-to-shift hand-offs.
4) STAT test orders.
5) Specimen integrity issues.
6) Regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
Ability to guide the team to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.
Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.

Compensation: Pay Range is $73.35 to $91.66 / hour. The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location.
