Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Buyer plays a crucial role in managing the acquisition of essential materials to support the operations of Dakota Fluid Power (DFP).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and procure hydraulic, pneumatic, and various components to facilitate DFP's Sales and Service across multiple locations.
  • Engage in negotiations with vendors to establish favorable contracts, purchase terms, lead times, blanket orders, discounts, and freight arrangements to maximize value for the organization.
  • Request and evaluate RFQs for new part numbers.
  • Analyze data including demand trends, sales history, quality metrics, and inventory levels to develop optimal purchasing strategies in collaboration with Operations Management.
  • Ensure pricing standards and inventory levels are maintained to support sales goals effectively.
  • Oversee purchase order confirmations and track expedited orders and vendor returns (RMA).
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding outstanding purchase orders.
  • Assess and report on lead times, keeping relevant personnel informed of Available to Promise (ATP) delivery schedules.
  • Address quantity discrepancies with suppliers and vendors.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to devise action plans for critical issues as they arise.
  • Apply lean principles to enhance purchasing processes continuously.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years of relevant procurement experience is required; experience in international purchasing is preferred. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), attention to detail, customer service orientation, and proficiency in computer applications are essential. The candidate should be self-motivated and capable of managing multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
