Position Overview

As an Employee Benefits Consultant at Conner Strong & Buckelew, you will be instrumental in managing a diverse portfolio of client accounts. Collaborating closely with a Senior Consultant, your role will involve understanding the strategic goals of clients and ensuring their benefit programs effectively support these objectives. Your key responsibilities will include conducting plan assessments, financial analysis, and evaluating costs based on historical claims data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Consultant in maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and retention, managing a portfolio with projected revenues between $1,500,000 and $3,000,000.
  • Facilitate the negotiation of renewal rates and year-end financials in partnership with the Senior Consultant. Prepare for negotiations through comprehensive analysis, review of claims history, and identification of market trends.
  • Engage in the development of client strategies for vendor selection, bid specifications, and management of the RFP process. Conduct thorough analyses, present tailored proposals, and coordinate site visits to fulfill client service expectations.
  • Evaluate benefit programs, contribution strategies, and client goals within budgetary limits to recommend optimal plan designs.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Consultant to suggest alternative vendor partnerships, plan structures, and contribution strategies that align with client objectives.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, emerging products, legislative changes, and technological advancements to proactively address client needs.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth within the portfolio and prepare detailed reports and presentations.
  • Provide mentorship to team members, serve as a backup for colleagues, and communicate any account-related issues to the sales team.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in regular meetings at Conner Strong and client locations.
  • Be available as an on-call resource outside of standard working hours, among other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Employee Benefits from a reputable brokerage or consulting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health & Welfare plans, along with strong technical and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with both self-insured and fully insured plans, including work with public and private sector clients.
  • Expertise in plan cost analysis, claims reconciliation, financial assessment, and compliance with benefit regulations.
  • Strong relationship management, organizational, and communication abilities.
  • Capability to negotiate, influence, and manage deadlines independently.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, leadership qualities, and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with authorization to work full-time in the United States.

Specialized Knowledge and Licenses

A valid state Life and Health Insurance License is required, along with designations such as CEBS, RHU, or CLU.

Work Environment

Office environment with moderate noise levels, offering flexibility in working hours and travel to various locations.
