Job Summary

The Certified Peer Support Specialist is a key associate at Hope Network Behavioral Health whose primary responsibilities include providing support and guidance to individuals in recovery from mental illness and substance use. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, you will draw from your personal experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to those we serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and promote a recovery-focused environment, using your personal experience to offer hope, encouragement, and reassurance to individuals in recovery.
  • Participate in clinical and staff meetings, and serve on other organizational committees as clinically appropriate.
  • Assist individuals in becoming active participants in their treatment and encourage self-advocacy while promoting personal responsibility for recovery and wellness.
  • Provide services aimed at promoting independence, community inclusion, and productivity, including assistance with benefits, housing, budgeting, and wellness recovery action plans.
  • Work as part of the interdisciplinary team to provide the best possible care and treatment to each individual.
  • Schedule and lead group programming, and provide formal and impromptu training for direct support staff and other team members.
Requirements
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a certification through the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
  • Life experience that allows individuals to identify themselves as peers.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and verbal format to meet position responsibilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team.
  • Current certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist or ability to obtain Michigan Peer Support Specialist Certification once hired.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year experience working in the field working with individuals requiring mental health and substance use treatment.
