Position Summary

The Health and Safety Specialist I plays a crucial role in maintaining compliance with safety regulations at construction locations. This position is responsible for fostering a safe working environment, ensuring adherence to industry standards, and protecting the well-being of all personnel involved. The specialist will be tasked with creating and executing site-specific safety plans, monitoring compliance, and conducting thorough safety audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all safety aspects of ongoing and upcoming construction and renovation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and health regulations on-site.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor and address recurring safety issues, collaborating with the EHS management team.
  • Manage the acquisition and completion of necessary permits for construction activities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, including pre-construction assessments and progress audits.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Facilitate safety training for new hires and contractors.
  • Participate in external safety inspections as required.
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or Environmental Health & Safety, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Associate Constructor (AC), Certified Professional Contractor (CPC), or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC).

Experience:

  • 1 to 3+ years of experience in managing construction and renovation projects.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies and technologies.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and develop appropriate plans.
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with construction safety practices, including LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, and more.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Understanding of hazard assessments and job safety analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
