Color Production Manager

Position Overview:
The Color Production Manager oversees the color manufacturing division, ensuring the seamless operation from color formulation to the scheduling and supervision of the color concentrate production process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the color formulation process, ensuring customer specifications are met for the Sales team.
- Approve and modify all color concentrates before they are sent for molding, verifying that additives are correctly proportioned and that resins meet Silgan Containers' standards.
- Produce production and customer color samples using plastic injection molding techniques.
- Analyze the Molding Schedule Summary for any necessary adjustments regarding deadlines, shipment dates, and production quantities.
- Organize production schedules to guarantee timely delivery of colorants to the Molding department.
- Manage the procurement of pigments, supplies, and machine repair parts.
- Delegate tasks to Color Lab staff in a team-oriented approach to enhance productivity.
- Handle personnel matters including discipline, vacation requests, and attendance issues.
- Ensure a safe working environment within the Color Lab and conduct regular departmental meetings focused on safety, quality, and financial performance.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of pigments, additives, and other essential materials for color concentrate production.
- Optimize inventory management to balance obsolescence with productivity.
- Ensure all equipment and machinery are properly maintained and operational.
- Oversee the department's budget and conduct annual performance reviews for staff.
- Manage the recycling process for barrel inventory and ground materials, assessing what can be reused or sold as scrap.
- Collaborate with Product Stewardship to ensure compliance with governmental regulations regarding packaging materials, including FDA compliance letters and specifications for colorants and resins.
- Participate in various meetings, including daily production discussions.
- Provide technical assistance to Sales and Engineering teams regarding materials, additives, and colorants.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and verification of incoming materials and schedule raw material deliveries.
- Ensure quality control for colorants and maintain detailed records of sample and color lab activities, including extrusion, dye weighing, and color checks.
- Engage with vendors and corporate sourcing teams to address pricing concerns, new product introductions, and material-related challenges.
- Strive to meet budgetary and corporate objectives.
Qualifications:
- A.S. Degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years of experience in color matching or formulation preferred.
- Experience in managing production schedules, deadlines, and shipment logistics.
- Prior supervisory experience is advantageous.
