Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Operator III to join our team at Goulston Technologies. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for the control and operation of an entire chemical process or system, including reaction chemistry processes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate chemical processes to manufacture products throughout the facility, including reaction chemistry processes involving high temperature, vacuum, condensing, reflux, decanting, recovery of byproducts, etc.
  2. Lead training and mentoring activities for Chemical Operators and develop new organizational improvement methods, including cost reductions and productivity improvements.
  3. Coordinate staging of raw materials and use of logistics support.
  4. Follow written production operating instructions and formulations and lead efforts to update procedures for efficiency and safety gains.
  5. Responsible for accurately adding and recording the required material amount specified.
  6. Responsible for meeting all required quality criteria, including specified appearance.
  7. Responsible for in-process quality testing with resulting batch/equipment adjustments.
  8. Gather and record operating information and data, including use of data monitoring systems to track batch progress and make process decisions.
  9. Responsible for safety, including recognition and understanding of chemical hazards such as flammable materials, corrosives, and high temperature processes.
  10. Actively involved in problem resolution as it relates to quality issues with batches.
  11. Regulate or shut down of equipment in case of emergency. Participation in emergency response efforts.
  12. Monitoring and inspection of equipment for subsequent scheduling/coordinating of maintenance efforts.
  13. Coordinate shift transfer as needed, including communication of process issues and batch status. Coordinate needed schedule changes during off hours.
  14. Direct personnel in the maintenance of housekeeping issues and or chemical spills as required.
  15. Assist with loading trucks as necessary.
  16. Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
  17. May be required to fill containers.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

We require a High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6+ years of related experience and/or training. Reaction chemistry experience is required. A Forklift License and Hazwoper 24 hr certification are preferred.

Language Skills

The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. They will also have the ability to analyze written information, such as procedures, against practice in order to propose change. The candidate will be able to write basic procedures and work instructions and present information and respond to questions from peers, supervisors, and managers within the organization.

Mathematical Skills

The candidate will have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. They will also have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability

The ideal candidate will have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. They will also have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Competencies

The candidate will have intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word, and basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. They will also have intermediate skills in Data Historian.
