Position Summary
The Business Continuity & Planning Lead (BCP Lead) is a pivotal role that collaborates with business continuity representatives and the Emergency Response Team, reporting directly to the Chief Audit & Risk Executive. This position is responsible for delivering professional and confidential guidance in emergency management and business continuity. The BCP Lead will oversee the strategic and operational facets of the program, ensuring compliance with established policies and best practices. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), the BCP Lead will manage essential processes such as business impact analysis, continuity planning, training, and program expenditures.
Key Responsibilities
- Address incidents that may disrupt operations, implementing necessary action plans to mitigate impacts.
- Guide and mentor business units and stakeholders in developing and maintaining emergency management and continuity plans.
- Ensure all plans and procedures are current and well-documented.
- Train and lead business continuity representatives to enhance their understanding of emergency management.
- Design and conduct emergency management exercises, including scenario selection and after-action reviews.
- Perform gap analyses to identify future emergency planning needs and training requirements.
- Coordinate the Emergency Response Team, advising on agenda items and monitoring follow-up actions.
- Provide expert advice during incidents or training exercises to the Emergency Response Team members.
- Stay informed on best practices in emergency planning and business continuity, developing relevant procedures and policies.
- Maintain and update business continuity information on the organization's intranet.
- Collaborate with the Chief Audit & Risk Executive on emergency protocols and continuity program development.
- Evaluate business plans against Enterprise BCP goals, challenging leaders on critical functions.
- Report to executive leadership, defining ongoing goals and initiatives.
- Identify solutions to infrastructure challenges and business obstacles.
- Oversee the maintenance and testing of all business continuity plans and communication tools.
- Supervise plan maintenance processes and execution.
- Maintain technology Disaster Recovery Plans for core services, ensuring alignment with Information Services and Security.
- Facilitate tests and exercises on business plans and crisis management.
- Administer the emergency communications system, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all staff.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in emergency management, business continuity, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or equivalent is advantageous.
- Completion of relevant emergency management courses is desirable.
- Knowledge of applicable acts, regulations, and standards is essential.
- 4-7 years of experience in emergency management or business continuity program oversight.
- Proven experience in emergency operations, plan development, and training program delivery.
- Strong understanding of emergency management and risk management principles.
- Excellent strategic thinking, leadership, and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to analyze data and collaborate with stakeholders to develop solutions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated client focus and the ability to negotiate effectively.
- Proficient project management skills, capable of delivering results under pressure.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on relevant legislation.
- Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities.
