These individuals may include both male and female offenders, as well as juveniles and adults, ranging from minor offenses to serious felonies.

The officer plays a crucial role in fulfilling the agency's mission by executing responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and efficiency, ensuring that the service provided is of high quality.

Specific Duties Include:
- Enforcing established regulations governing the operation of detention facilities, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in custody.
- Conducting initial assessments of physical and mental health for offenders, along with classification evaluations.
- Providing offenders with an introduction to the facility's rules and procedures through comprehensive orientation sessions.
- Coordinating various services, activities, and programs for offenders.
- Monitoring and supervising the movement of offenders, performing welfare checks, and maintaining accurate counts of individuals in custody to uphold discipline and prevent contraband.

Additionally, the officer will:
- Instruct offenders on hygiene, sanitation, and the proper use of tools and equipment.
- Assist in managing the behavior of offenders requiring additional supervision.
- Transport offenders to various locations, including court and medical facilities, while ensuring their safety throughout the process.
- Implement safety protocols as part of the facility's emergency management plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet specific experience and educational requirements based on the grade level:

  • GL-05: Three years of general work experience or a completed bachelor's degree.
  • GL-06: One year of specialized experience in a correctional setting or relevant educational qualifications.
  • GL-07: One year of specialized experience at the GL-06 level or equivalent educational background.
  • GL-08: One year of specialized experience at the GL-07 level, demonstrating leadership over lower-level officers.

Physical and Work Environment
The role demands a high level of physical fitness and mental resilience, as it involves prolonged periods of walking, standing, and the potential for physical confrontations. Officers must be prepared to work in environments that may expose them to health risks and stressful situations.

Frequent interaction with individuals in confinement is a core aspect of this position, requiring the ability to manage daily stress and maintain composure in potentially dangerous scenarios.
