Environmental Compliance Specialist for Transportation Projects

Your RoleWe are currently looking for a mid-level Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our Transportation team. This role will focus on providing essential technical support for various Transportation projects.
The successful candidate will be integral to our Environmental Services team, which offers comprehensive expertise to navigate the permitting, approval, and compliance landscape associated with transportation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct inspections for Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Virginia Water Protection (VWP) projects for sensitive transportation initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance on environmental compliance related to construction operations.
- Ensure that all work adheres to permit conditions, project plans, contract specifications, and applicable environmental laws.
- Oversee VPDES/VWP projects and support team members in maintaining compliance across transportation projects.
- Engage with client representatives, contractors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate project compliance.
- Interpret and apply relevant state and federal environmental regulations and best management practices.
- Deliver project tasks within established timelines and budget constraints.
- Assist in drafting technical documents for regulatory submissions, including permit applications and compliance reports.
- Support the implementation of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies throughout all project phases.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience in agency permit compliance and enforcement procedures.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations concerning wetlands and natural resources.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to manage budgets and schedules independently.
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to work autonomously.
A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field is preferred, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, particularly in transportation-related projects.
Certification as a Virginia DEQ ESC/SWM Inspector is a plus.
Work EnvironmentThis position typically involves a standard office environment with significant computer use, as well as fieldwork that may require exposure to various weather conditions. Candidates should be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
