Job Summary

The Head, Business Excellence is a key leadership role within Scientific Operations, responsible for leading the business operations function. This includes vendor onboarding, third-party risk management, and engagement with enabling functions. The successful candidate will have a strong background in operational excellence, project management, and budget planning. They will lead a team of four direct reports with global locations and be responsible for preparing budget models, monitoring budget execution, and preparing regular and special-purpose reports. The role requires a deep understanding of budget planning and forecasting methodologies, including capital equipment and facility projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading diverse initiatives, working in a matrixed organization, and leading global teams. They will be a strong leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the business operations function, including vendor onboarding and third-party risk management.
  • Prepare budget models, monitor budget execution, and prepare regular and special-purpose reports.
  • Manage overall headcount reporting and planning processes.
  • Lead capital expense and low-value asset planning and execution.
  • Support strategic and process excellence projects with financial intelligence and impact assessments.
  • Ensure high-quality and efficient support with a focus on procurement, animal import/export, ticketing, and troubleshooting.
  • Partner with other operations teams to optimize processes and data quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business, engineering, or a technical area or comparable education.
  • Project management certification (PMP or IPMA) is considered a plus.
  • 4+ years of experience in the medical, pharmaceutical, or (bio-) chemical industries in an operational role.
  • Knowledge of operational excellence, formal training in Lean and/or Six Sigma desirable.
  • Experience in project management methodology and tools.
  • Deep knowledge of budget planning and forecasting methodologies, including capital equipment and facility projects.
  • Experience in leading diverse initiatives, working in a matrixed organization, and leading global teams.
  • Leadership experience required; global team leadership highly desired.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200- $226,800/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.

Salary Range

$151,200.00 - $226,800.00
