Role Overview
Berkley Prime Transportation is in search of a skilled Auto Underwriter who possesses a passion for underwriting to become a part of our innovative, collaborative, and dedicated team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding our organization by meeting and surpassing profitability targets through effective risk assessment and account management, leveraging data and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assessing new and renewal commercial insurance applications, accurately classifying businesses, selecting appropriate policy forms, and pricing risks; analyzing relevant risk data such as loss control reports, motor vehicle records (MVRs), loss history, and financial statements.
- Managing a designated agency territory, ensuring the achievement of set premium targets and profitability goals, conducting audits on agency submissions, clearly communicating the underwriting philosophy of the company, and ensuring adherence to best practices in underwriting.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with agencies; conducting visits, setting expectations, and recommending actions for agency improvement when necessary.
- Providing mentorship to Assistant Underwriters on technical underwriting issues, including coverages, cancellations, exclusions, endorsements, and non-renewal procedures.
- Contributing to the development of new insurance products, enhancements to coverage, and processes that promote efficiency in production and processing.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- A CPCU designation is preferred or in the process of being obtained.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in commercial auto underwriting, preferably in the trucking sector.

Work Environment
This position requires in-office attendance from Monday to Thursday, with the option for remote work on Fridays. Normal office conditions apply.
