Construction Safety Advisor

We are seeking a Construction Safety Advisor to support a leading technology organization. In this pivotal position, you will be tasked with developing, executing, and enhancing safety protocols for various ongoing construction initiatives. The Construction Safety Advisor will possess extensive knowledge of safety compliance frameworks and specialized safety areas as necessary. This role is crucial for overseeing site-wide safety systems, regulations, and industry best practices. It is a part-time position with the potential to expand to full-time hours, structured as a fixed-term role for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a robust safety culture throughout the site and encourage active participation in safety-related initiatives.
  • Serve as the Owner's representative while liaising with contractors.
  • Conduct daily assessments of on-site safety measures.
  • Deliver timely and high-quality technical safety support.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure adherence to site rules and procedures.
  • Facilitate the completion of job safety analyses, risk evaluations, and pre-task planning.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports to local, state, and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and monitor investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental incidents, non-injury accidents, and near-misses to ensure effectiveness and identification of root causes. Lead inquiries into significant adverse events. Analyze safety performance and initiate corrective actions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety within the construction sector, ideally with commercial or large-scale projects. CHST certification is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Skilled in managing high-risk operations, including electrical safety, excavation, confined spaces, fall protection, material handling, rigging, and crane operations.
  • Proven experience in collaborative communication and problem-solving with subcontractors is essential.
  • Experience in demolition processes is preferred.
  • Comprehension of the challenges associated with multi-employer job sites.
  • Experienced in training on construction safety topics and adept at working with diverse trades.
  • Demonstrated capability in conducting safety audits and inspections on construction sites.
  • Experience in incident investigation and familiarity with reporting protocols.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of the significance of timely reporting and communication.
