Position Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Chief Operations Officer to lead our Southern California Division. This role is pivotal in identifying and negotiating new development opportunities, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives through collaboration with Brokers and Land Sellers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct construction operations, either directly or through Project Managers and Superintendents.
  • Establish and implement construction standards, processes, and training programs for field employees.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop innovative product plans.
  • Engage with public agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Recruit, lead, and nurture high-performing teams, providing them with the necessary tools for success.
  • Manage relationships with trade partners throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Set timelines for each project and communicate schedules effectively.
  • Develop and oversee Purchasing, Warranty, and Design departments.
  • Maintain adherence to safety standards at job sites.
  • Address issues related to daily construction activities, including vendor contracts and job progress.
  • Represent Thomas James Homes in the community and foster relationships across the building industry.
  • Build and sustain excellent working relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Utilize sound judgment to solve problems based on knowledge of construction schedules and management policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Extensive experience in high-volume homebuilding operations, including P&L management and strategic planning.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performance teams to successfully complete significant projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional presentation and project management abilities.
  • Strong understanding of the local real estate market and business dynamics.
  • Experience in budget management, forecasting, and adjustments.
  • Research and assessment skills to identify opportunities and evaluate feasibility.
  • Expertise in market analysis and deal structuring.
  • Proficient in conducting due diligence and comprehensive deal reviews.
