About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Resident Engineer I to join our team at HNTB. As a key member of our Construction Services Group, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall field management of our contracts, administration, and coordination on complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor activities of assigned staff to ensure conformance with contractual requirements
  • Provide technical leadership for complex or unique assignments
  • Review drawings, specifications, and installation procedures for constructability
  • Represent projects at meetings and conferences
  • Coordinate project activities, establish priorities, and staff to jobs
  • Prepare Summary Inspection Report of Daily activities
  • Monitor contractor progress and compare with the reviewed progress schedule
  • Resolve technical field issues and coordinate with Architects and Engineers for timely and accurate responses to requests for information
  • Oversee project controls, including checking contractors controls and coordinating schedules
  • Review submittals for conformance to plans and specifications
  • Develop strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements
  • Implement the firm's project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project
  • Lead the development and execution of the project management plan
  • Supervise and mentor team to overall project objectives
  • Identify and resolve non-compliant work
  • Provide interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and specifications
  • Develop strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements
  • Confirm change order requests, develop estimates, negotiate costs, and write change orders
  • Provide cost control on projects and quality control within discipline
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects
  • Work with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials
  • Lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community
  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of construction staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
  • All jurisdictional certificates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • 10 Years of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $126,000 - $217,000 for Maryland and $138,000 - $217,000 for Washington, DC, depending on the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
