Job Summary

The Colville Tribes is seeking a highly skilled Forestry Engineer I/Sr. to join our team in the Branch of Forestry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in forest land management, including forest ecology, silviculture, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement intensive forest resource management plans, including the development of harvesting systems and infrastructure.
  • Conduct production analysis, empirical cost analysis, and financial analysis of harvesting operations.
  • Design and implement forest roads, bridges, and other hydrologic structures.
  • Develop and administer contracts for timber harvesting and transportation.
  • Represent the Forestry department in conflicts with other resources and make recommendations for new methods or procedures.
  • Coordinate timber harvesting and transportation plans with Fire Management to ensure proper fire suppression access and prescribed fire activities.
  • Participate in multi-discipline management planning for the development or revision of natural resource management codes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry, forest management, natural resource management, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in forestry, forest management, or a closely related field.
  • Valid WA State Drivers' License and ability to maintain throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Tribal policies and regulations affecting forest management activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying elemental and terrain conditions.
  • Ability to sit for varying periods of time and move about various campus locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in forestry, forest management, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in civil engineering, including the design of forest roads, bridges, and other hydrologic structures.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS products and ability to use remote sensing information to identify, map, and digitize transportation systems.
  • Ability to develop cost and production models based on manufacturer's specifications and research studies.
