Job Type: Full-Time
Shift: Day and Night Shifts Available; 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, including weekends as necessary.
Overview:We are seeking a qualified Forklift Operator to enhance our stevedoring operations by effectively managing cargo within the terminal. The successful candidate will be tasked with operating forklifts to transport, stack, and arrange substantial cargo items safely and accurately. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient execution of cargo loading and unloading processes to achieve productivity goals and operational timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate forklifts to move goods and materials around the facility efficiently.
  • Load and unload cargo from various transport vehicles, including trucks and ships.
  • Organize and stack large cargo units within the storage area to optimize space utilization.
  • Inspect product loads for correctness and safely transport them throughout the logistics facilities.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols while operating forklifts.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections, including battery recharging and lubrication.
  • Notify supervisors of any significant repairs or malfunctions, particularly with hydraulic systems and steering components.
  • Follow operational instructions for handling goods as directed by the operations manager.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card is required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a forklift operator with a valid license for powered forklifts.
  • Familiarity with various material-handling equipment is advantageous.
  • Proficient in operating both automated and semi-automated equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of general safety regulations within a stevedoring or maritime environment.
  • Physical capability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends as required.
Work Environment:
  • This position involves operating a forklift primarily in outdoor settings and large warehouse spaces.
  • The work environment includes exposure to mechanical equipment, elevated noise levels, and varying environmental conditions such as dust and temperature fluctuations.
  • The role requires physical endurance to manage heavy and awkward loads, repetitive tasks, and prolonged periods of sitting.
