Job Overview

The Mental Health Association - Western MA is seeking a dedicated Medication Administration Specialist. This role is crucial in ensuring that individuals residing in our community homes receive their prescribed medications accurately and punctually. The Medication Administration Specialist will follow a structured schedule, traveling between multiple locations to provide afternoon and evening medication services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Execute the daily medication administration schedule as assigned, ensuring timely delivery of all medications. In case of any challenges, it is essential to communicate with the Supervisor to develop an alternative plan.
  2. Comply with all Medication Administration Program (MAP) guidelines, including the 5 Rights: Right Person, Right Medication, Right Time, Right Dose, and Right Route. The Specialist is expected to perform all three verification checks as instructed in the MAP training during every medication administration.
  3. Report any medication-related incidents to nursing and supervisory personnel in a professional manner.
  4. Monitor medication supplies and initiate reordering procedures when stocks are low.
  5. Conduct daily counts of controlled substances as required.
  6. Accurately document all medications administered, both scheduled and as needed, in accordance with MAP protocols.
  7. Engage with nursing staff regularly for additional MAP support and guidance.
  8. Follow safe driving practices as per organizational policies and submit travel expense reimbursements promptly.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possession of a valid driver's license, adequate automobile insurance, a clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle during work hours.
  • Current MAP certification with a proven track record of successful medication administration.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, take initiative, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in computer usage and organizational tasks.
  • Capacity to adapt to the evolving needs of program participants.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience, empathy, and compassion.
  • Minimum age requirement of eighteen years.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; a college degree in human services or a related field is preferred.
  • At least six months of relevant experience is necessary, with a preference for experience working with individuals with brain injuries, mental health challenges, or developmental disabilities.

Position Type: Part-time, with shifts scheduled from Sunday to Tuesday, 2 PM to 10 PM.
