Job Title: Advocate Counselor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Advocate Counselor to join our team at Brooklyn Community Services. As an Advocate Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of our students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic planning and case management services to a caseload of 40+ students.
  • Offer weekly individual and daily group counseling, including facilitating an Advisory Group five days a week.
  • Assist students in attending school regularly by identifying obstacles, connecting them with resources, and conducting attendance outreach, including home visits.
  • Help students develop actionable post-secondary plans.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention support as needed, including mediation support.
  • Engage in family outreach and conduct parent/guardian meetings as appropriate.
  • Offer counseling and support services to families to improve communication between family members and students.
  • Document all work and maintain case records for all students on the caseload as required.
  • Attend DOE Parent-Teacher conferences, School Leadership meetings, Parent Teacher Association meetings, and out-of-town College Trips in accordance with the DOE school calendar.
  • Assist with the College application process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MSW preferred.
  • Experience and demonstrated case management support in working with youth and families.
  • College preparatory experience required.
  • Commitment to upholding an inclusive environment that fosters a sense of community, belonging, and connectedness.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to working from a strength-based and/or youth and family development perspective.
  • Knowledge in Trauma-Informed Practice a plus.
  • Willingness to be creative and work as an integral part of a team.
  • Fingerprinting and background check.
