Key Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Manager will be responsible for:

  • Establishing effective financial and reporting systems to keep project management informed of ongoing financial status and transactions.
  • Ensuring timely inclusion of project budgets in government financial plans, adhering to established processes and timelines.
  • Evaluating annual work plans and budgeting procedures, applying budgetary control systems to monitor actual expenditures against budgets.
  • Communicating financial responsibilities and available funds to all implementing partners and service providers, ensuring compliance with reporting and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ensuring that project funds are utilized in accordance with financing agreements, focusing on economy and efficiency.
  • Assessing compliance with local laws and regulations governing the operations of implementing institutions.
  • Maintaining necessary documentation and records for all project activities, ensuring clear connections between financial statements and accounting records.
  • Contributing to the preparation of Project Implementation and Financial Manuals.
  • Ensuring adherence to financial procedures as outlined in the Project Implementation and Financial Manuals.
  • Liaising with external auditors to ensure timely audits of project accounts.
  • Reviewing external auditor reports and addressing any concerns raised.
  • Coordinating with other project agencies to ensure timely preparation of Interim Financial Reports.
  • Facilitating timely disbursement of funds for project implementation.
  • Reporting on internal control operations, including budget controls, and addressing any deviations.
  • Assisting the Project Coordinator with resource mobilization efforts.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must possess:

  • An Advanced Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, along with a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognized institution.
  • CPA Kenya qualification.
  • Membership in ICPAK.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role, with at least 5 years in Development Partner funded projects.
