POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Cashier/Sorter at the Family Store is tasked with managing cash transactions, providing change, and operating cash registers and credit card machines while ensuring accuracy. When not engaged in cashier duties, the individual will assist in the warehouse by sorting and categorizing donated items, pricing inventory, and restocking merchandise as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of inventory management, retail sales, and loss prevention.
  • Proficient in operating cash registers and handling monetary transactions.
  • Strong customer service skills, providing prompt and courteous assistance.
  • Acceptable criminal history record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage cash register operations, process sales, issue credit slips, and make necessary corrections.
  • Handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently, including accepting payments and verifying credit cards.
  • Assist in daily cash deposit counting and ensure cash security.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries professionally and direct calls as necessary.
  • Address customer complaints regarding merchandise effectively.
  • Ensure excellent customer relations by providing timely and courteous assistance, ensuring proper pricing of all merchandise.
  • Participate in staff meetings and stay updated on new policies and directives.
  • Support loss prevention efforts by reporting accidents and incidents of loss promptly.
  • Identify safety hazards and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the store.
  • Work in the warehouse to sort and price items as directed.
  • Restock store inventory as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and program-related information.
  • Assist donors with the removal of donated items and provide receipts as requested.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work is conducted in a climate-controlled store environment with a low noise level. There may be brief exposure to cold and inclement weather when receiving donations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role involves speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, climbing, and balancing. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. The ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
