POSITION SCOPE:

The Cashier/Sorter at the Family Store is tasked with managing cash transactions, processing payments, and ensuring accuracy while operating the cash register and credit card machines. In addition to cashier duties, the role involves sorting and organizing donated items, pricing inventory, and restocking merchandise as needed.

MINIMUM SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of inventory management, retail sales, and loss prevention.
  • Proficient in operating cash registers and handling monetary transactions.
  • Strong customer service skills, providing prompt and courteous assistance.
  • Acceptable criminal history record.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage cash register operations, process sales, issue credit slips, and make necessary corrections.
  • Handle cash, provide change, and verify credit card transactions with accuracy.
  • Assist in daily cash deposit counts and ensure cash security.
  • Respond to phone inquiries professionally and direct calls as needed.
  • Address customer complaints regarding merchandise effectively.
  • Ensure excellent customer relations by providing timely and courteous service, ensuring proper pricing of all merchandise.
  • Participate in staff meetings and stay updated on new policies and directives.
  • Support loss prevention initiatives by reporting incidents and safety hazards promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining store cleanliness and organization.
  • Work in the warehouse to sort and price donated items.
  • Restock store inventory as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and program-related information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Assist donors with unloading items and provide receipts as requested.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is a climate-controlled store setting with low noise levels. Occasional exposure to cold and inclement weather may occur when receiving donations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role requires various physical activities including speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, climbing, and balancing. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. The ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds is necessary.
