  • Receive and respond to emergency calls from the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Determine the nature and location of emergencies, utilizing knowledge of geography and road systems.
  • Dispatch appropriate law enforcement and emergency units, maintaining effective communication with units on assignment.
  • Handle requests for information from various departments, ensuring accurate and timely responses.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports, adhering to established procedures and policies.
  • Assist in emergency disaster planning and updating of manuals, staying up-to-date with relevant protocols and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • Terminology and codes used in emergency communications, including relevant laws and regulations.
  • Geography and road systems, including knowledge of local terrain and infrastructure.
  • English language usage and grammar, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Learn and apply dispatching skills, staying current with new technologies and procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work calmly and efficiently in high-pressure situations, prioritizing tasks and managing stress.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Operate communications equipment, including radios and computer systems.
  • Follow established procedures and policies, adhering to regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with experience in public-facing roles, such as customer service or law enforcement support.

Special Requirements:

  • A valid California driver's license is required.
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Completion of required training courses, including emergency medical dispatch and crisis negotiation.
