Join the City and County of San Francisco's Department of Emergency Management as a Public Safety Communications Dispatcher. In this critical role, you will be responsible for receiving and responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical services, and providing critical information to the public and emergency responders.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering and evaluating information from callers.
- Dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services to specific locations using a computer-aided dispatch system.
- Evaluate incoming reports of police, fire, and medical emergencies, transmitting complete and accurate information to appropriate field personnel.
- Monitor and coordinate the status of incidents and records of dispatched emergency service personnel and apparatus.
- Receive and disseminate information from other law enforcement and emergency service computer networks.
- Maintain familiarity with area geography and recognize circumstances that may pose hazards to public safety field units and the public.
- Stay up-to-date on public safety policies and procedures for the Department of Emergency Management, police, fire, EMS, and other emergency service providers.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in a public contact position providing information and/or a service, or in a position where the primary responsibility is interacting with people.
The selection process for this position will include a supplemental questionnaire, a performance examination, and a background investigation. Candidates who pass the exam will be invited to participate in an oral assessment and a psychological evaluation. A medical examination will also be required prior to appointment.
