About the Role

This is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the implementation of landscape programs at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the work of subordinates, as well as designing and implementing landscape projects for the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement landscape programs that meet the needs of the institution, working closely with senior management.
  • Read and interpret landscape and construction plans and specifications, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the selection of pesticides and fertilizers, ensuring the use of environmentally friendly products.
  • Plan and direct ground maintenance programs to control weeds, plant diseases, and damaging insects, ensuring the health and safety of the landscape.
  • Supervise and train Grounds Maintenance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of tasks.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff in areas such as safety, environmental design, planting techniques, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the selection and purchasing of trees and plant materials, ensuring the use of high-quality products.
  • Assist in establishing and revising related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of experience in landscape maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Horticulture or a related field.
  • Experience in supervising a team of Grounds Maintenance staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly.
