Position Overview:
The Integrative or Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive patient care. This includes diagnosing, treating, and consulting as part of a collaborative physician/nurse team. The position involves working within a Specialty Care team, addressing both inpatient and outpatient needs, and providing care independently or as part of a treatment team to ensure seamless patient care across various settings. The role also encompasses educational responsibilities, case management, and consulting with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Care:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments.
- Establish diagnoses and treatment plans for illnesses.
- Order and interpret medical diagnostics in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical equipment as necessary.
- Provide patient education to manage chronic conditions and promote wellness.
- Refer patients to specialty care when appropriate.
- Consult with physicians when cases exceed the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice or when treatment plans are unclear.
- Team Collaboration:
- Enhance communication within the healthcare team and with interdisciplinary staff.
- Serve as a resource for team members.
- Engage with hospital staff through consultations and patient rounds.
- Collaborate with primary care teams for program development.
- Participate in research initiatives when opportunities arise.
- Act as a liaison with external agencies as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Integrative or Functional Medicine.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in accordance with MN Board of Nursing regulations.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) required upon hire.
- ACLS-BLS Tier 2 certification required within 180 days.
- Drug Enforcement Administration registration required upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
Medium Work: Lifting weights up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently, in accordance with Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy.
