Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting capital initiatives from initial design through to final commissioning. This position will serve as the primary source of electrical systems knowledge across our operations in North America and South America. The role involves collaboration with various teams to improve technical expertise and project results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer expert guidance on the selection, configuration, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and feeders.
  • Develop comprehensive electrical engineering scopes of work, including estimates, specifications, control narratives, and conceptual designs in partnership with Operations, Process, and Project Management Teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in electrical engineering, aiding in system design, engineering evaluations, root-cause analysis, and ongoing enhancements.
  • Conduct power loading assessments, device coordination, arc flash safety evaluations, energy consumption analysis, and short circuit studies.
  • Review and validate work produced by external engineering consultants, encompassing diagrams, drawings, specifications, requests for quotations (RFQs), and vendor documentation.
  • Assist Operations by diagnosing issues within process control systems and recommending performance enhancement projects.
  • Lead and coordinate both internal and external project resources effectively.
  • Supervise the commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring compliance from vendors and thorough documentation.
  • Maintain safety, environmental, and engineering standards throughout all operations.
  • Establish consistent objectives and tasks across operations in the Americas.
  • Collaborate with equipment and system integration vendors.
  • Support training initiatives, including the apprenticeship program and electrical safety training.
  • Ensure the safety and reliability of electrical systems, complying with all applicable codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an Associate's degree with relevant experience.
  • Over 8 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation, ideally within the lime, cement, or bulk material handling sectors; project engineering experience is advantageous.
  • Expertise in industrial power tasks such as power factor correction, grounding, motor testing, power quality assessment, electrical protection settings, VFD configuration, and instrument calibration.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code and other NFPA Electrical Standards; knowledge of MSHA and EPA regulations is a plus.
  • Proficient in process control instrumentation, calibration, and troubleshooting; familiarity with HMI and PLC programming, particularly Wonderware and ControlLogix.
  • Detail-oriented with robust problem-solving abilities and root-cause analysis skills for medium and low-voltage systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 35% domestically, with potential international travel, including extended assignments during critical construction and start-up phases.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary up to $120,000 per annum
  • Annual bonus potential of 20%
