The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is at the forefront of addressing complex technical challenges for government and industry clients. We are seeking a Lead Quantum Research Specialist who will leverage advanced interdisciplinary expertise in STEM fields, including statistics, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and computer engineering, to drive innovative research in quantum technologies.
Role Overview:
As a Lead Quantum Research Specialist, you will engage in pioneering research in areas such as quantum communication, quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum information science (QiS). Your responsibilities will include collaborating with clients to pinpoint opportunities where your advanced quantitative and technical skills can effectively resolve challenges, designing and developing prototype solutions, and ultimately bringing these innovations to fruition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with elite research professionals and academic faculty to create groundbreaking technologies that will shape national security strategies.
- Co-author research proposals, conduct studies, build models, develop prototypes, and present findings to stakeholders and at academic conferences.
- Travel to various locations as necessary to support the SEI's mission.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related highly quantitative discipline with ten (10) years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with eight (8) years of experience; or a PhD with five (5) years of experience.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
• Current legal authorization to work in the United States is required.
Desired Skills:
- Expertise in quantum communication, quantum computing, quantum sensing, and/or quantum information science (QiS).
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences through written reports and presentations.
- Proven teamwork skills, particularly in interdisciplinary settings.
- Capacity to work independently on intricate tasks and demonstrate innovative problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in research project design, modeling, simulation, and quantum programming is advantageous.
