Salary range: $500,000.00 to $850,000.00, including incentive compensation.
Position Overview
The Executive Medical Director (EMD) for Orthopedics & Musculoskeletal Care provides strategic leadership in the clinical, operational, and financial success of the MultiCare Health System (MHS) physician enterprise within the Medical Specialties division. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of MultiCare Medical Partners (MMP), the EMD drives the strategic expansion of the service line and acts as the accountable clinical leader, collaborating with administrative leadership of the medical group and relevant facilities to optimize performance and ensure compliance. The EMD directs programs and strategies that lead to successful health outcomes, enhanced patient experiences, medical cost efficiency, and a workplace of choice to deliver high-performing, high-value care. The EMD partners with ambulatory and hospital leadership to implement physician enterprise strategies and program initiatives.Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes positively to the organizational culture, leading in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Develops strategic vision, creates tactics, and monitors performance for care delivery, clinical quality, and performance improvement across the Medical Specialties division.
- Establishes objectives and facilitates the execution of the highest quality clinical products, achieving key performance indicators in quality, patient outcomes, cost, and engagement.
- Ensures adherence to the highest quality clinical performance standards across all elements of care delivery within MHS facilities.
- Responsible for the establishment, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical protocols and care models within the care line, aligned with system strategy and fiscal targets.
- Develops a high-performing management team and holds leaders accountable for the performance of individual clinics, service lines, and collective system markets.
- Collaborates with staff, directors, clinical medical directors, and administration to strategically manage the care line, ensuring goals are met for high-quality access to care and cost-effective healthcare services.
- Partners with leaders across MultiCare Health System markets to drive performance in value-based care relevant to the care line.
- Engages in employee and physician engagement efforts, including recruitment and retention activities, ensuring compensation methodologies and incentive metrics align with strategic service line outcomes.
- Acts as the designated MMP leader responsible for discerning all embedded MHS support services that influence the clinical product for patients within the Medical Specialties division.
Care Line Specific Responsibilities:
- Oversees care delivered across the continuum within the Medical Specialties care line by employed and credentialed clinicians, including all employed physicians and APPs in the Orthopedics & Musculoskeletal departments.
- Partners effectively with key stakeholders to achieve exceptional safety and quality outcomes, including communication and enforcement of best practices and clinical policies.
- Accountable for the successful execution of key initiatives that achieve exceptional patient safety and quality outcomes across all related sub-specialty services.
- Responsible for care line participation and performance in system initiatives, including relevant committee and clinical council efforts.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
- Licensure to practice medicine in Washington State.
- Board certification or similar accreditation in Orthopedics or related specialties.
- Credentialed to practice in MHS facilities.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of clinical experience providing direct patient care.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a medical leadership role, with at least three (3) years as a medical director or equivalent.
- Additional education in healthcare administration is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental, retirement benefits, and paid time off. The salary range for this position is $500,000.00 to $850,000.00 USD, influenced by factors such as skill set, experience, and education. If this position is associated with a union contract, compensation will reflect the appropriate step on the pay scale based on the applicant's experience.-
