Position Overview:
The Executive Medical Director (EMD) for Orthopedics & Musculoskeletal Health provides strategic leadership in the clinical, operational, and financial performance of the MultiCare Health System (MHS) physician enterprise within the Medical Specialties division. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of MultiCare Medical Partners (MMP), the EMD drives the strategic expansion of the service line and acts as the accountable clinical leader, collaborating with administrative leadership to optimize performance and ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes positively to the organizational culture, aligning leadership with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Develops strategic vision, implements tactics, and monitors performance for care delivery, clinical quality, and performance enhancement across the Medical Specialties division.
- Establishes objectives and facilitates the execution of high-quality clinical services, achieving key performance indicators in quality, patient outcomes, cost, and engagement.
- Ensures adherence to the highest clinical performance standards across all MHS facilities within the designated care line.
- Responsible for the establishment, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical protocols and care models, aligned with system strategy and fiscal objectives.
- Develops a high-performing management team and holds leaders accountable for the performance of individual clinics and service lines.
- Collaborates with staff, directors, clinical medical directors, and administration to strategically manage the care line, ensuring alignment with MMP and regional strategic goals.
- Engages with leaders across MultiCare Health System markets to drive value-based care performance relevant to the care line.
- Participates in employee and physician engagement initiatives, including recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring compensation methodologies align with strategic service line outcomes.
- Acts as the designated MMP leader accountable for the integration of all embedded MHS support services that influence clinical outcomes for patients within the Medical Specialties division.
Care Line Specific Duties:
- Oversees care delivery across the continuum within the Medical Specialties care line, including employed and credentialed clinicians. All employed physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in Orthopedics & Musculoskeletal departments report to the EMD.
- Partners effectively with key stakeholders to achieve outstanding safety and quality outcomes, ensuring the communication and enforcement of best practices and clinical policies.
- Accountable for the successful execution of key initiatives that enhance patient safety and quality outcomes across all related sub-specialty services.
- Responsible for care line participation and performance in system initiatives, including relevant committee and clinical council efforts.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
- Licensed to practice medicine in Washington State.
- Board certification or equivalent in Orthopedics or a related specialty.
- Credentialed to practice in MHS facilities.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of clinical experience in direct patient care.
- At least five (5) years of experience in a medical leadership role, with a minimum of three (3) years as a medical director or equivalent.
- Additional education in healthcare administration is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental, retirement benefits, and paid time off. The salary range for this position is $500,000.00 to $850,000.00, influenced by factors such as skills, experience, and certifications. If this position is part of a union contract, compensation will align with the appropriate step on the pay scale based on the applicant's experience.
