About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at ChristianaCare. As a Sterile Processing Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by cleaning, inspecting, sterilizing, and decontaminating instruments for the Operating Room and other ancillary departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow established decontamination procedures to ensure the proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including ultrasonic cleaners, washer decontaminators, and cart washers.
  • Identify and replace broken or improperly functioning surgical instruments.
  • Reassemble instruments into their assigned trays according to instrument tray lists.
  • Locate and retrieve missing items and instruments from instrument sets, boards, bins, or extra instruments in trays.
  • Apply biological indicators in the sterilization process and adhere to quality control requirements.
  • Wrap, label, and prepare items for steam, Sterrad, and gas sterilization.
  • Pull case carts for surgical procedures and complete missing item slips for incomplete carts.
  • Restock supplies in instrument, decontamination, and sterilization areas according to checklists or par levels.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Educate new employees in Sterile Processing procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain an attitude of dedication, courtesy, and collaboration toward others.
  • Ensure par levels are met for sterile storage and OR instrument areas.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 6 months of Sterile Processing experience, with hospital experience preferred.
  • Current National CRCST or HSPA certification required.
