Metal Fabrication Specialist

Position Objective:
The primary responsibility is to execute stitch and full welds on various components and assemblies utilizing the GMAW technique. Familiarity with oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting tools is advantageous. Proficiency in reading a tape measure and basic blueprint interpretation is essential. The role may also involve the use of hand tools and grinders as required.
Position Summary:
This role is under the supervision of the Plant Manager or a Department Supervisor. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of machinery and tools, including their design, application, maintenance, and repair.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify, rectify, and report safety hazards to mitigate accident risks.
- Continuously seek opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency enhancements.
- Adhere to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the Sea Box Quality Policy, ensuring self-inspection of work output.
- Interpret blueprints accurately.
- Measure, layout, and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials according to specifications using tools such as calculators, scribes, and rulers.
- Drill and punch holes in metal for fastening purposes.
- Join seams and joints using welding, bolting, cementing, riveting, and other methods to assemble products or repair metal items.
- Modify or fabricate parts at job sites using shears, hammers, and drills.
- Refine and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled components using hand and power tools.
- Utilize safety equipment and maintain safe working practices.
- Weld components in various positions including flat, vertical, and overhead.
- Ignite welding torches and establish electrical circuits by touching electrodes to the metals being joined.
- Secure parts in the correct configurations for welding through clamping, tack-welding, and heat-bending.
- Detect and report any equipment malfunctions or material defects to supervisors.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding machines to fuse metal segments using various welding processes.
- Monitor welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion of materials.
- Inspect workpieces for defects and measure them to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Set up and operate common hand and power tools used in welding.
- Position and align parts prior to assembly using measuring tools.
- Lift production materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain a consistent state of alertness and safety while fulfilling job functions.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: 0 – 2 years of welding experience preferred, with the ability to read blueprints. Successful completion of the AWS 4G welding test is required. Familiarity with oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting is a plus. Proficiency in reading tape measures and basic print reading is necessary.
