Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train shop staff, including coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action as needed
  • Estimate job costs for major work and ensure that all necessary repairs and adjustments are completed on all equipment
  • Order, ship, and receive parts to maintain shop inventories
  • Coordinate with Shop Operations Supervisors to move units to other facilities for repair
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for domiciled equipment
  • Review and oversee record-keeping functions for the shop in the computer system
  • Communicate with office staff regarding various issues in the shop
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and components
  • Submit all required paperwork and reports to the appropriate individuals in a timely manner
  • Maintain a quality control on all aspects of the shop
  • Travel to other company shop locations when staff is needed
  • Review and approve service invoices for repairs
Requirements
  • Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair, or a technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • A valid state-issued driver's license
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • A CDL, ASE, and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
  • Command of the English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment
  • Basic hand tools are required
  • Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks
  • Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers
  • Computer skills needed for diagnostics
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Minimal travel required
  • Weekend and night hours occasionally required
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • Overtime may be required during peak periods
  • Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently

  • Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers
