Position Purpose:
The role involves performing stitch and full welds on various components and assemblies utilizing the GMAW process. Familiarity with oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting tools is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in using a tape measure and possess basic print reading skills. The position may also require the use of standard hand tools and grinders.
Position Summary:
This role reports directly to the Plant Manager or a designated Department Supervisor. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of machinery and tools, including their design, application, maintenance, and repair.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize accident prevention by actively identifying, correcting, and reporting safety hazards.
- Seek opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Support the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and adhere to the Sea Box Quality Policy through self-inspection of work.
- Interpret blueprints accurately.
- Measure, lay out, and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials, such as roofing panels, using tools like calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers.
- Drill and punch holes in metal for fastening purposes.
- Assemble components using welding, bolting, cementing, riveting, soldering, caulking, and bonding techniques.
- Fabricate or modify parts on construction sites using shears, hammers, punches, and drills.
- Refine surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts through trimming, filing, grinding, deburring, buffing, and smoothing.
- Utilize safety equipment and maintain safe work practices.
- Weld components in various positions including flat, vertical, or overhead.
- Ignite torches or initiate power supplies and create arcs by contacting electrodes with metals during welding.
- Secure parts and assemblies in the correct configurations for welding through clamping, holding, tack-welding, heating, bending, grinding, or bolting.
- Detect and report any equipment malfunctions or defective materials.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding machinery to fuse metal segments using various welding processes.
- Monitor welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion of materials.
- Inspect workpieces for defects and measure them to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Recognize, set up, and operate common hand and power tools used in welding.
- Prepare and align parts and assemblies prior to assembly using measuring tools.
- Lift production objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Maintain a consistent state of alertness and safety while fulfilling essential job functions.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Candidates should have 0-2 years of welding experience and be able to read blueprints. Successful completion of the AWS 4G welding test is mandatory. Familiarity with oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting tools is a plus. Basic print reading and tape measure skills are essential.
