Position Summary:
This role is contingent upon the successful award of a contract. The position involves supporting the County of Sarasota, Florida, to deliver care for individuals with special needs during large-scale disaster scenarios. The selected candidate must be prepared to respond to emergencies within 24 hours of notification and establish care within 72 hours. This role is post-disaster and requires the individual to be present on-site until the operation concludes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the medical team during deployment efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with shelter management and stakeholders.
  • Oversee medical operations and ensure clinical governance.
  • Establish and manage the Risk and Quality Management program.
  • Engage with county leaders and shelter managers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Deliver required reports and documentation.
  • Issue prescriptions and develop patient care plans as necessary.
  • Maintain and enhance personal medical knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure patient care promotes safety and well-being.
  • Support the organizational mission and objectives.
  • Foster positive relationships within the medical team and across departments.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Accredited medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a physician, preferably in remote or austere settings.
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice.
  • Current and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • DEA License.
  • Experience with special needs populations is preferred.
  • Ability to perform medical procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Strong triage skills and the ability to manage multiple patients simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Accurate data entry skills.

Physical and Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical duties as required.
  • Willingness to work in challenging environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Travel to Sarasota as required for the role.
