Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the food preparation process, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local guidelines. The Culinary Assistant will work under the direction of the Executive Chef and the Food Service Manager to guarantee that high-quality food service is consistently delivered.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Executive Chef.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and understand menus prior to food preparation.
  • Assist in the pre-preparation of various food items, ensuring they are visually appealing and palatable.
  • Serve meals according to established portion control standards.
  • Prepare food for specialized diets, including chopped and pureed options.
  • Ensure food temperatures meet safety guidelines before serving.
  • Coordinate food preparation to align with service schedules.
  • Foster positive working relationships with department staff and other facility departments to maintain effective food service.
  • Contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere within the department.
  • Participate in mandatory training and in-service programs.
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation regulations during food preparation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in food storage areas.
  • Report any hazardous conditions or equipment issues to the Chef or Manager promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to prepare a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of dietary procedures and relevant regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move throughout the workday, including standing, bending, and lifting.
