Job Overview:
The managerial role will differ in scope and intricacy based on the designated area of responsibility. Generally, the manager will oversee staff, manage the medication utilization process, and direct clinical pharmacy services within their assigned domain. Furthermore, the manager will ensure the delivery of quality pharmaceutical care, which encompasses the responsibility for providing safe, effective, and economical drug therapy for all patients. The manager will engage in integrated and ongoing communication with healthcare professionals and patients regarding medication therapy management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute all pharmacist duties and responsibilities pertinent to their practice area.
  • Accountable for maintaining 'best practice' standards of clinical care, optimizing patient satisfaction, and achieving an efficient medication utilization process and workflow.
  • Assess the current pharmacy practice within the department and propose recommendations.
  • Plan and oversee the development of new programs based on identified needs and opportunities.
  • Act as the first line manager for addressing and resolving employee and patient concerns, seeking guidance from Human Resources or departmental leadership when necessary to ensure satisfactory outcomes.
  • Conduct all performance management activities for assigned personnel.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels, skill mix, and assignments to support the effective provision of patient care.
  • Oversee recruitment and hiring processes for the assigned area.
  • Responsible for maintaining standards, clinical activities, operational activities, and performance metrics that align with clinical, operational, and market demands.
  • Identify and analyze trends in medication utilization and costs, including factors influencing these changes.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, and administrative partners to develop processes or programs addressing identified medication utilization issues.
  • Contribute to the formulation of evidence-based, cost-containment, and cost-saving protocols and therapies.
  • Provide input into staffing and financial budgets for the assigned areas.
  • Communicate and ensure the implementation of activities and tools that consistently educate and focus staff on key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for ensuring the development and execution of operational contingency plans in collaboration with the department leadership team as financial or other conditions necessitate.
  • Ensure compliance of assigned areas and services with accreditation and both regulatory and corporate compliance standards.
  • Develop, revise, audit, and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
Work is typically conducted in a clinical setting. The manager is accountable for fulfilling all job-specific obligations and adhering to all organizational policies and procedures. Schedule includes every other weekend rotation.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (Required)

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience (Required), Minimum of 1 year in a managerial/supervisory capacity (Required)

Certification(s) and License(s):
Licensed Pharmacist (Pennsylvania) - State of Pennsylvania
