Athletic Care Technician

Overview:
Under the guidance of the department professional, the technician carries out general non-technical responsibilities; aids the department professional in the transfer, lifting, positioning, and treatment of athletes across various settings within the healthcare system, including but not limited to sports medicine clinics, educational institutions, and community sports facilities.
Ensures treatment areas are well-maintained and oversees the upkeep of all equipment and supplies.Additional Information:
A. Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
Required Experience:
One to two years of college education preferred, along with some experience in patient care and familiarity with medical terminology.
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma required.
Physical Demands:
Intermittent physical exertion involved in positioning, lifting, and transferring patients, equipment, or other materials.
Involves total body lifts of injured athletes onto stretchers. Predominantly walking and standing, with occasional running required during emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with treatments including, but not limited to, exercises, gait training, massage, whirlpool therapy, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, ice therapy, traction, wound care, bracing, taping, and splinting under the supervision of a department professional.
- Prepare necessary documentation as directed by the department professional.
- Ensure care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
- Manage appointment books, logs, and schedules essential for daily departmental operations.
- Prepare equipment and treatment areas for incoming athletes.
- Maintain and distribute essential supplies such as bandages, cleaning materials, and assistive devices.
- Provide general assistance to the department professional as required.
- Uphold cleanliness in the department, treatment areas, and equipment.
- Perform clerical tasks such as recording patient charges, answering phones, and other related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to department policies, procedures, objectives, and safety, environmental, infection control, and quality assurance protocols.
- Engage in educational programs, in-service meetings, and attend other required meetings.
- Execute additional duties as assigned by the supervising athletic trainer and/or Lead Athletic Trainer.
- Communicate effectively with all hospital personnel as necessary.
- Follow compliance programs and regulatory guidelines.
