Position Title: Heavy Truck and Equipment Mechanic

Department: General Service/Vehicle Maintenance

Salary: $28.44 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate under the guidance of the Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent or designated personnel.
  • Utilize exceptional customer service skills to foster positive relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Drive a motor vehicle as necessary to support departmental operations.
  • Conduct semi-skilled and skilled maintenance on the city’s fleet and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on all vehicles and mechanical systems.
  • Utilize various diagnostic tools and hand, electric, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Test, service, and repair vehicles and mechanical apparatus.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace components and parts as needed during maintenance tasks.
  • Repair systems including brakes, engines, electrical, fuel, transmissions, and more.
  • Execute metal cutting and related tasks.
  • Change and repair tires as required.
  • Assess the condition of mechanical equipment and vehicles, executing necessary repairs.
  • Conduct analyses and inspections to determine cost-effective maintenance and repair solutions.
  • Order parts and supplies for vehicle and mechanical system upkeep.
  • Provide emergency assistance for disabled equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain daily records and prepare specialized maintenance reports.
  • Be available for on-call duties during weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Qualifications:

  • Compliance with the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
  • Completion of extensive background checks.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and/or drug/alcohol test.
  • High school diploma or GED with specialized training in mechanics or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  • A.S.E. certifications must be obtained within nine months of hire.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of automotive and diesel engine mechanics.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols related to municipal maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to work with various tools and equipment for vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires frequent use of hands for handling tools and equipment, climbing, stooping, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities must include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

Employees may work near moving mechanical parts and in various weather conditions, with occasional exposure to wet conditions and fumes.
