Position Summary:

The Heavy Truck and Equipment Mechanic will operate under the direct supervision of the Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent or designated personnel. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on the municipal fleet and mechanical equipment.
  2. Utilize diagnostic tools and a variety of hand and power tools to assess and rectify mechanical issues.
  3. Conduct preventive maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance of vehicles and equipment.
  4. Inspect, adjust, and replace components as necessary to maintain operational efficiency.
  5. Repair various systems including brakes, engines, electrical, fuel, and transmission systems.
  6. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  7. Provide emergency assistance for disabled equipment as required.
  8. Participate in ongoing training and maintain necessary certifications.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and have a clean driving record. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, along with specialized training in mechanics or a related field. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills.

Physical Requirements:
