Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Position Overview:

Potawatomi Defense Operations (PDO) is seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor to deliver essential Counseling and Case Management services to members of the Wisconsin Army National Guard (WIARNG).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accept referrals for Soldiers facing Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) offenses and other significant alcohol-related incidents, including self-referrals and command team referrals.
  • Conduct Alcohol Use Disorder Assessments (AUDA) to evaluate the risk levels associated with alcohol consumption.
  • Provide tailored counseling and case management services for Soldiers, recommending appropriate treatment and rehabilitation strategies based on assessed risk levels.
  • Facilitate connections between Soldiers and civilian treatment providers, the Joint Wellness and Recovery Program (JWRP), and/or MyPrime for Life based on the outcomes of the AUDA.
  • Identify any Behavioral Health concerns during assessments and refer Soldiers to the HSS Social Work team as necessary.
  • Organize and lead the Joint Wellness and Recovery Program (JWRP) retreats.
  • Follow up with Soldiers and their commands post-treatment to assess the effectiveness of programs and recommend further treatment if needed.
  • Provide evening and weekend support to Soldiers and units, adjusting schedules as required.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Soldiers regarding their MyPrime progress.

Administrative Duties:

  • Adhere to timelines for administrative tasks and events.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of data files and records for program tracking.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or a Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (SAC-IT) is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field is preferred but not essential.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in counseling, with at least one (1) year in counseling services or public health.
  • A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Senior Leaders.
  • Proficient in monitoring program progress and identifying areas for improvement in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

Communication Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Committed to upholding corporate values, policies, and standards.
  • Strong business writing and oral communication capabilities.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension).
  • Capable of passing background investigations and periodic drug testing.

Additional Requirements:

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Eligible for access to military installations following security checks.
  • Willingness to travel to training locations as assigned.
  • Flexibility in work schedule is essential to support military operations.

Working Environment:

  • Office setting within a National Guard facility.
  • Potential for uncommon duty hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Generally low to moderate noise levels in the work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, with some physical stamina required.
  • Normal periods of standing and walking.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
