About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Masters Level Clinician to join our team at Centers for Independence. As a key member of our crisis intervention team, you will play a critical role in providing support and stabilization services to individuals in psychiatric crisis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, family members, and other service providers to intervene in and manage acute crisis situations.
  • Work closely with our Registered Nurse and Peer Support Specialist to identify medical, psychological, and social needs of individuals in crisis.
  • Engage individuals in the process of determining desired linkages to community resources that will assist them in stabilizing their crisis and improving their quality of life.
  • Link individuals and family members with appropriate services in the community that address the underlying causes of mental health crises.
  • Provide counseling and follow-up services to ensure smooth access to and procurement of services in the community until the mental health crisis is stabilized.
  • Facilitate peer support group sessions to promote recovery and community integration.
  • Assess individuals brought to our Crisis Resource Center who are in immediate psychiatric distress, using a strength-based approach to identify immediate psychiatric concerns and social factors contributing to the mental health crisis status.
  • Provide accurate documentation and maintain consumer files as required by agency policy, government regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal codes.
  • Participate in collaborative team meetings to identify strategies that address ongoing consumer concerns.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other service providers in the Milwaukee area.
  • Collect, maintain, and synthesize data to evaluate the quality of service delivery and overall program evaluation.
  • Participate in collaborative team meetings to evaluate ongoing program operation and address team member concerns.
  • Assist in various leadership roles within the team, ensuring all activities are recovery-oriented, and assist with training of new staff and occasional facilitation of team meetings.
  • Provide community education regarding crisis management and the mental health service industry.
  • Perform duties as delegated under DHS 34 of the State Statutes in relation to psychiatric emergencies.
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff in accordance with DHS 34.
  • Write consumer incident reports and ensure the Director and RN receive a copy.
  • Maintain consistent oral and/or written communication with the CRC Director, including regular program status reports.
  • Attend and participate in in-service trainings, seminars, and conferences as required.
  • Serve as a field instructor for students interning in the CRC.
  • Responsible for adhering to agency policies and procedures while carrying out daily responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related Human Services field.
  • Minimum of 3,000 hours of experience working with adults with severe and frequent mental illness.
  • Travel is not required for this position.
  • Training license required.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Professional workplace appearance and conduct; friendliness and courtesy to clients, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Effectively communicates and develops good working relationships with co-workers.
  • Reliability in reporting to work regularly and on time.
  • Must possess good communication, listening, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to assist clients with activities of daily living, such as shopping, cleaning, and cooking.
  • Experience with adults undergoing a psychiatric crisis.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to consumers in the Milwaukee County area.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing, is desired.
