Role of the Substance Use Disorder Counselor:

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor plays a vital role in facilitating patient recovery from opioid addiction. Counselors deliver compassionate care through various methods, including both individual and group therapy sessions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver compassionate guidance in individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Plan, manage, and document patient recovery processes.
  • Co-facilitate group or family therapy sessions as required.
  • Ensure timely and clear documentation of patient care and treatment incidents.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans for each patient.
  • Conduct initial and follow-up assessments.
  • Assess patient needs and identify potential referrals to other programs or facilities.
  • Plan aftercare for assigned patients as necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention support when needed.
  • Manage case responsibilities for patients, ensuring tailored quality care.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and referral sources as required.
Education and Qualifications:

Essential Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in a social or health services field required;
  • Preferred Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in addiction recovery and/or medication-assisted treatment environments is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required:
  • SACIT or eligibility is mandatory
  • Also considering: SAC, CSAC, LPC, LMFT, & LCSW
