Bakery Department Manager Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Bakery Department Manager to lead our Bakery team and drive sales growth in our stores.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Bakery department.
  • Supervise a team of Partners and ensure they are trained and equipped to provide excellent customer service.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and shrink control to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and H-E-B policy and standards for product food safety and sanitation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
  • Monitor and analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless execution of sales promotions and events.
  • Provide coaching and training to Partners to improve their skills and performance.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to Partners.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of leadership experience in a retail or food service environment.
  • Certified Bakery Expert or equivalent (e.g., Retail Bakery Association-Certified Master Baker preferred).
  • Food Safety certification.
  • Forklift/power jack training.
  • Advanced interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Organization and planning skills.
  • Feedback skills.
  • Computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel), and H-E-B systems.
  • Ability to adapt to stressful situations with change management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks.
  • Ability to delegate effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, reach overhead, and side to side throughout shift.
  • Ability to possess hand/finger dexterity.
  • Ability to safely maneuver around moving mechanical parts.
  • Ability to work in a cooler environment on a regular basis, and in an extreme cold environment on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat from ovens and fryers.
  • Ability to work extended hours and varying work schedules as dictated by the business.
