Bakery Manager Job Description

Overview:

H-E-B is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Bakery Manager to lead our Bakery department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Bakery department, ensuring exceptional customer service and high-quality products.

Responsibilities:
  • Management:
    • Make employment-related and business decisions, including product and department-related strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding, or otherwise engaging in resolving Partner-related matters.
    • Train School of Retail Management (SORM) and School of Retail Leadership (SORL) trainees.
    • Assist all Partners in the department with their duties; coach/train; and evaluate as needed.
    • Hold Partners accountable for following SOPs.
    • Prepare work schedules, order product, control inventory, monitor department budget and payroll.
  • Production:
    • Prepare the production plan; ensure correct quantities are produced.
    • Maintain correct product levels by conducting weekly reviews of production quantities.
    • Monitor showcase production and stale tracking.
    • Accountable for results of Bakery Scorecard.
  • Sales:
    • Execute merchandising programs and drive sales by producing appropriate variety and quantity of bakery products daily.
    • Responsible for large product assortment and sales volume.
    • Increase department contribution by effectively managing shrink and inventory levels.
    • Maintain the highest levels of customer service through personal example, SOP compliance, and accountability.
  • Food Safety/Sanitation:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and H-E-B policy and standards for product food safety and sanitation.
    • Maintain safety/sanitation of equipment and department; maintain sanitation standards throughout the work area.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Certified Bakery Expert or equivalent (e.g., Retail Bakery Association-Certified Master Baker preferred).
  • H-E-B School of Retail Management (to be completed upon hire).
  • Food Safety certification.
  • Forklift/power jack training.

Work Environment:
  • Function in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Stand and lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, reach overhead, and side to side throughout shift.
  • Possess hand/finger dexterity.
  • Safely maneuver around moving mechanical parts.
  • Work in a cooler environment on a regular basis, and in an extreme cold environment on an occasional basis.
  • Work in extreme heat from ovens and fryers.
  • Work extended hours and varying work schedules as dictated by the business.
