Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced District Unit Supervisor to join our team at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. As a District Unit Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a correctional facility, ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff, and providing guidance and support to correctional officers.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of a correctional facility, including the supervision of correctional officers and the management of inmate populations.
  • Ensure the safety and security of inmates and staff, including the implementation of security protocols and the investigation of incidents.
  • Provide guidance and support to correctional officers, including training and coaching on best practices and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure the effective operation of the facility and the delivery of services to inmates.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of facility operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field such as criminal justice, sociology, or psychology.
  • Three years of full-time, wage-earning case work or case processing experience in the criminal justice or social services field.
  • Parole officer experience preferred.
  • Computer operations experience preferred.
  • Technical review or program evaluation experience preferred.
  • Teaching, training, or staff development experience preferred.
  • Must meet and maintain Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) access eligibility for continued employment in position.
  • Must possess a valid state driver license.
  • Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training from the Texas Department of Public Safety within six months of employment date.
  • Must meet and maintain TLETS access eligibility for continued employment in position.
