Job Overview

As an Automation Controls Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of control systems tailored for a variety of applications within the Industrial Automation sector. Your responsibilities will include selecting suitable electrical components such as switches, relays, sensors, and drives based on specific system requirements. You will also be tasked with integrating these components into larger systems to ensure optimal functionality and compatibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documenting and developing functional specifications for both new and existing systems.
  • Writing code to meet functional specifications according to project timelines.
  • Creating and executing test plans to verify and validate code development.
  • Designing and developing Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
  • Creating control system software for PLC and/or PC-based systems.
  • Designing and developing wiring diagrams, schematics, layouts, and drawings for industrial electrical control panels.
  • Reviewing and designing Instrumentation & Input/Output Network Architecture.
  • Troubleshooting control systems, including industrial electrical control panels, using wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Producing technical documentation and information required by team members, field personnel, and management.
  • Providing on-site support during system Start-Up, Commissioning, and Maintenance.
  • Estimating project efforts (time and materials) and regularly reporting on project status.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (BSEE preferred).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the automation sector.
  • Proficiency in Design/Drafting Tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Experience with Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) including Allen-Bradley, Omron, and RSLogix.
  • Familiarity with HMI systems configuration and design.
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards such as UL and CE.
  • Experience with various Motion Controllers and Actuators.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for control system issues.
  • Experience in Java, microcontroller programming, and HDL languages is advantageous.
  • Electrical background (electrician or technician) is preferred.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Panel View programming and AB Servo and VFD drives is a plus.
  • Familiarity with VFDs, encoders, and network/Ethernet controls.
  • Expertise in control panel design and construction.
  • Knowledge of Networking, Ethernet, DH+, and RIO is beneficial.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and team members.
  • Desired experience with Vision System programming (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Desired experience with Robot programming (e.g., ABB, Fanuc).
