The Emergency Response Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and ensuring comfort for individuals in need, all under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN). Key Responsibilities:

Core Functions:

The following duties are essential to the role and should be performed with a focus on patient care:

Patient Care:

  • Collaborate with the RN and healthcare team to achieve patient care objectives as outlined in the care plan.
  • Accurately document and enter patient data into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as per the PCT Scope of Practice.
  • Monitor vital signs, weights, and other relevant patient observations.
  • Assist with various tasks as directed by the RN, including blood glucose testing, patient transport, and linen changes.
  • Support patient mobility and assist with daily living activities.

Effective Communication:

  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Participate in hand-offs to communicate critical patient information effectively.

Compliance:

  • Maintain and enhance personal technical and clinical skills through ongoing education.
  • Adhere to safety goals and infection prevention protocols.

Basic Performance Criteria:

  • Demonstrate UnityPoint Health's values and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current licenses and certifications required for the position.
  • Complete all annual education and competency requirements.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a fundamentals course in nursing or EMT training.
  • At least one year of clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license for work-related travel.
  • Current BLS certification and Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI).
  • C.N.A. certification.

Skills:

  • Proficient in English communication.
  • Ability to complete training on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
