Job Overview:
The Emergency Care Technician serves as a vital clinical support member within the Critical Care and Emergency Department environments.

This role involves assisting the healthcare team in executing various tasks and procedures for patients who are critically ill or require specialized observation.

Operate under the guidance and supervision of qualified clinical personnel.

Shift Details:
0 PRN hours, as-needed

Schedule:
Flexible shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays required.

Minimum Work Requirement:
Must work at least two shifts per month and two holidays per year.

Scope of Work:
Employees are expected to work in a Critical Care or Emergency Department setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:
Assists with the admission, discharge, and transfer processes of patients, including transport.

Delivers exceptional customer service when addressing patient and family inquiries.

Records and reports patient care observations and data promptly. Communicates changes in patient conditions swiftly and secures necessary assistance.

In a clinical setting, may be required to deliver medications to the RN.

Critical Care Duties:
Prioritizes and executes patient care as directed by the RN or other interdisciplinary team members. Responsibilities may include collecting patient data, monitoring vital signs, administering oxygen therapy, and conducting cardiac monitoring.

Acts in critical care scenarios as instructed by RN or MD.

Assists with emergency resuscitation efforts, prepares for line insertions, and retrieves necessary supplies and equipment.

Identifies and fulfills unit and patient care needs with minimal supervision.

Team Collaboration:
Works collaboratively with RNs and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient care.

Exhibits effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organizational skills.

Performs non-nursing tasks as assigned, such as cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, and providing directions.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
If performing Point of Care Testing:
Must possess a High School diploma or GED in accordance with CLIA regulations.

CNA Certification.

  • EMT or Paramedic Certification in the state of practice.
- or
  • MA Certification (if working in the Emergency Department).
- and
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
One year of experience as a CNA, EMT, or MA, or relevant healthcare experience.

  • Current enrollment in a nursing program.

  • Basic computer proficiency.
- and
  • EKG training.

Physical Requirements:
Regular need for the employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring effective verbal communication and auditory comprehension, especially in emergency situations.
- and
  • Manual dexterity to handle complex and delicate equipment with precision.
This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care and accessing necessary information.

  • Expected to lift and utilize a full range of movement to assist patients.
Involves bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights.

  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.

Compensation Information:

$18.12 / Hourly - $23.55 / Hourly
