Position Overview
Job Summary

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA
HOURS: Part Time (24 hours per week). Night Shift (7pm-7am) with potential for evening shift (3pm-3am). A mix of 4, 8, and 12 hour shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.

SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000 (prorated based on FTE), with a commitment of 2 years. Eligibility criteria apply, including a minimum of 15 months RN experience. External applicants only.

8 North is an 18-bed Medical-Surgical unit equipped with Telemetry and elopement technology, providing care for patients with diverse medical conditions. Our primary focus is on infectious diseases and the care of older adult patients with medical needs, along with some general surgery patients. We employ a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery.

ROLE SUMMARY: Assume responsibility and accountability as outlined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who works as a full partner within the healthcare team and consistently demonstrates

safe practice aligned with the organizational professional practice model.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague possesses the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitude to effectively meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice. This role embodies Penn Medicine's experience standards, reflecting its mission and embedded within the professional practice competency domains. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague independently delivers patient care through the application of the nursing process and accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients, who may range from infancy to the elderly.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague demonstrates competencies in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague collaborates closely with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate coordinated care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on enhancing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague actively seeks feedback while assuming leadership roles and provides constructive feedback to enhance clinical practice. The nurse illustrates how nursing practice contributes to the organizational vision, mission, and goals, as well as the care delivery system. Compliance with all regulations and standards set by regulatory and accrediting bodies is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified individuals must possess the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
  • Integrate the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into patient care planning.
  • Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress toward achieving outcomes and adjust the care plan based on recognized trends and changes. Collect and manage comprehensive data relevant to the patient's health or situation.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues. Formulate age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care plans.
  • Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating expected standards of care and supporting their contributions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to our values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, intervening as necessary to ensure the care plan is executed, continuity of care is maintained, and established outcomes are achieved through the appropriate use of human, material, and financial resources.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology where appropriate.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning and delivering nursing services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols, coordinating with appropriate health team members and resources, and documenting events.
  • Engage in process improvement activities with a focus on enhancing continuity in the nurse-patient relationship, minimizing redundancies, and seeking solutions to current challenges or developing new methods and procedures.
  • Complete mandatory education and training, including reviews of age-specific needs, caring behaviors, and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to established evidence-based practice policies and procedures and promptly reporting safety variances.
  • Exhibit pride in work through daily interactions with staff, coworkers, patients, and all individuals encountered.
  • Pursue experiences and formal and independent learning activities to sustain and enhance clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
  • Provide supervision, including guidance, counseling, and mentoring, to peers and subordinates to enrich learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment within the designated work setting.
  • Participate in the employee performance process related to peers and subordinate team members; address employee issues, complaints, disputes, or requests as the first level of supervision; evaluate their performance post-hire.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities for this position as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher nursing degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters; or within two (2) years of placement in position for incumbents who started after 07/01/2020.
  • Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
  • CPR Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider (AHA Heart Saver courses for CPR are not accepted) required within 30 days of hire.
  • A healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e., not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal or state health insurance program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As outlined in unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
